Texas A&M* – Colorado Sky Blue
// Nov 7 -
2009 Season
November 7th – Boulder Colorado 35, Texas A&M 34
Colorado quarterback Tyler Hansen hit tight end Patrick Devenny from 22 yards out with 2:04 to play to put the Buffs up 35-34, with Texas A&M giving up two turnovers late as Colorado prevailed, 35-34. Hansen was sacked eight times for the second consecutive week, but did pass for 271 yards and a touchdown as the Buffs raised their record to 3-6, 2-3. Rodney Stewart had 118 yards rushing and two touchdowns, and Markques Simas finally showed some of the spark that endeared him during practices the past two seasons, catching seven passes for 135 yards (Simas had 122 yards receiving for the season coming into the game).
The game, as had become the pattern for Colorado in 2009, began ominously. The stat line for the Buffs’ first two drives: net one yard, punt; net three yards; punt. Meanwhile, Texas A&M’s first drive covered 58 yards in 11 plays. For a team which had been out-scored 64-27 in the first quarter of the first eight games of the season, these were not good numbers. Still, thanks to a goal line stand, the game remained scoreless. Texas A&M drove to the Colorado one…

Pac-12?
The week after the Nebraska game was hard on Buffs’ fans. Nebraska had beaten Colorado for the first time in four years, and had beaten CU badly, 52-7. Even with the Buffs’ recent success, the series record stood at 35-14-2, Nebraska. Perhaps the prospect of…

Texas A&M
- Texas A&M lost to Texas, 49-9, last season. The 40-point loss was the second worst defeat in the series for the Aggies, second only to a 48-0 loss to the Longhorns in 1898.
- Texas A&M renews a series against old Southwest Conference rival Arkansas in 2009. It will be the first time that the old SWC opponents have met since 1991. The two teams are scheduled to meet each year through 2018. Give the Aggies credit for upping the ante in their non-conference schedule.
- Few schools are as steeped in tradition as Texas A&M. From the 12th man to Reveille to Midnight Yell practice, the Aggies of College Station have tradition down to a science.
- The 12th Man. The tradition of the Twelfth Man was born in 1922, when Texas A&M was playing Centre College, then the nation’s top ranked team. As the hard fought game wore on, and the Aggie bench became depleted, Coach Dana X. Bible remembered a squad man who was not in uniform. He had been up in the press box helping reporters identify players. His name was E. King Gill, and was a former football player who was only…

So, how is recruiting coming along?
One of the first thoughts many Buff fans had when the Darrell Scott defection was announced: “how much worse will this make our 2010 recruiting class?” – we’ll, let’s find out.
Colorado either has five or seven commitments for signing day next February (Rivals and Scout agree on five, with two players, running back Mister Jones, from Littleton, Colorado, and defensive end Chidera Uzo-Diribe, from Corona, California, being considered “soft verbals” by Scout.com). Even with the seven commitments, Colorado ranks dead last in the Big 12 in verbal commitments. At present, the Buffs are only within shouting distance of Nebraska, which has 11 commitments. Five Big 12 rivals (Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech) have over 20 known commitments.
At first blush, this is not alarming. Colorado under Dan Hawkins has consistently trailed other schools during the regular season. Part of the Buffs’ recruiting philosophy has been to allow players to take their time to make their decisions, hoping that the lack of pressure will be attractive to high school seniors who are being contacted on an hourly basis by numerous schools. Last season at this time, for instance, Colorado only had four verbal commitments.
The problem, of course, is that there…
